Reimagining Health Through Community Connection

Quorum is a community engaged research team made up of various knowledge-holders: community partners, research staff, housing partners, and community health workers.

The purpose of Quorum is to guide research that promotes health equity for people with experiences of homelessness who are living with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease.

To us, quorum means having the right people at the table to make meaningful decisions.

Learn More About the Team

Quorum began in 2015 when our team members came together to consider how health and health care could be better for people on Medicaid (public insurance). We recognized together the many challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and living with chronic illnesses. Specifically we described “the pile-up” of chronic conditions including type 2 diabetes and observed “it’s never just diabetes” and reflected on challenges especially when depression and other mental health conditions are present. We noted that competing priorities often exist when faced with the work of taking care of one’s health and working through the “run around” in health care, housing, & other systems.
